Spanish Learning Experience for 10 - 16 Year Olds

Practice is given in Spanish language skills but the greatest importance is given to speaking. The British and foreign children are encouraged to communicate whenever possible, confidence grows and the students are usually pleasantly surprised by their rapid progress.

The small classes ensure a much higher level of personal attention and student participation than is to be found in many schools. The teachers are able to help students with their personal grammar problems, whilst at the same time expanding their knowledge of the language. The fun side of learning and using another language is brought to life through rôle-plays, language games and the many varied activities offered, which are conducted wherever possible in the language being learnt.

The success of the courses is to be seen in the high number of children who return year after year to meet old friends and make new ones

Facilities include:

  • Heated outdoor Swimming Pool
  • Tennis courts, netball and badminton
  • Playing fields for football, rounders, and team games
  • Indoor hall for sports and activities
  • Art and Cookery Rooms
  • Themed events and international evenings
  • Drama and music workshops
  • Aerobic and dance classes
  • BBQs, discos, quizzes and competitions

Social Programme

Summer language courses for 8 – 12 Year Olds at Great Ballard School

Topic based classes designed specifically for CLAC students and led by a professional instructor

A typical day at Great Ballard School

CLAC days start with a meeting, which everyone attends to learn about the day’s programme ahead and news of upcoming events. The meeting is followed by timetabled English classes until lunchtime, with a short break mid-morning for a drink, snack and catching up with friends.  After lunch, the timetabled programme continues until 3pm with specialist workshops such as filmmaking, photography, yoga, drama, cookery and more.

After workshops, the social programme starts when students can choose from a variety of activities including arts, sports, games and local trips. These are displayed on the Social Programme noticeboard and students sign up for their chosen activities.

Evenings are for big events, famous CLAC games such as the Scary Walk, Cluedo, parties, campfires and other activities that involve the whole course. Everyone is included.

We are also able to cater to individual dietary requirements such as allergies and intolerances if notified in advance.

Bedrooms and bathrooms are separate for boys and girls. Students are placed with similar age groups and mixed nationalities in bedrooms from 2 to 6 students, in order to encourage new friendships and maximise English speaking.

All rooms are comfortable and clean with plenty of storage and hanging space for each student. Bathroom and showering facilities are well situated for easy access throughout the accommodation areas.

There are always enough facilities for everyone. Included in the fees is a personal laundry service and also bed linen, which is changed once a week.

The Activity Programme provides an opportunity for students to relax, meet up with their friends and practise their English through fun activities. Every afternoon after classes there are sports, excursions and events that make the most of what CLAC and the surrounding area have to offer.  The programme is designed to appeal to different personalities and to not only interest, but also include everyone.

Each evening the Social Team arranges group challenges and tournaments, as well as CLAC quiz nights, discos and parties to entertain and involve all of the Great Ballard students. There is always something happening for all of our students to be take part in. We also understand that some free time is desired and this is included in the programme.
