Spanish Learning Experience for 10 - 16 Year Olds

The small classes ensure a much higher level of personal attention and student participation than is to be found in many schools. The teachers are able to help students with their personal grammar problems, whilst at the same time expanding their knowledge of the language. The fun side of learning and using another language is brought to life through rôle-plays, language games and the many varied activities offered, which are conducted wherever possible in the language being learnt.
The success of the courses is to be seen in the high number of children who return year after year to meet old friends and make new ones
Facilities include:
- Heated outdoor Swimming Pool
- Tennis courts, netball and badminton
- Playing fields for football, rounders, and team games
- Indoor hall for sports and activities

CLAC days start with a meeting, which everyone attends to learn about the day’s programme ahead and news of upcoming events. The meeting is followed by timetabled English classes until lunchtime, with a short break mid-morning for a drink, snack and catching up with friends. After lunch, the timetabled programme continues until 3pm with specialist workshops such as filmmaking, photography, yoga, drama, cookery and more.
After workshops, the social programme starts when students can choose from a variety of activities including arts, sports, games and local trips. These are displayed on the Social Programme noticeboard and students sign up for their chosen activities.
Evenings are for big events, famous CLAC games such as the Scary Walk, Cluedo, parties, campfires and other activities that involve the whole course. Everyone is included.

7:30
Every morning, students are woken up by CLAC staff – so the day immediately starts with learning and fun

8:30-9:15
Breakfast is a firm favourite with all CLAC students – a choice of cereals, porridge, warm croissants, cold meats, eggs, cheese, fruit, toast, spreads and sometimes cooked breakfast – no wonder it’s popular!

9:15-9:30
Students gather daily in the main hall for their Morning Meeting led by the Director and the Social Organisers! It is an informative yet fun event with a run-through of the exciting programme for the day ahead and the highlight for everyone – an energized singing of the CLAC ‘jingle’.

9:30-13:00
This is the main grammar lesson of the day. Students meet with their Group Teacher and are taught using a combination of a course book and the teacher’s own resources. Each group will have a plan of the grammar to be taught each week displayed in their classroom.

13:00
Lunch is a lively event in the dining room with friends and CLAC staff. There are always two choices of hot food – one vegetarian – and a varied salad bar selection with fresh fruit and dessert to end the meal.

13:45 - 15:00
This timetabled English+ lesson is special to CLAC. Students can choose a specialised topic of interest to study in more depth. The idea behind these classes is that when students are involved through interest they are able to learn and assimilate more and forget that they are actually learning and practising their English. The English+ choices are made during the application process.

15:15-17:30
After the English+ and in the afternoons, students are given a choice of activities they can particapate in which include swimming, indoor or outdoor sports, arts and crafts. These activities are run and organised by the CLAC Social Team. During our second part of afternoon activities, students can either continue their chosen sports stay at the swimming pool or simply go on a short supervised tour of local museums and attractions.

18:00
Dinner is another favourite with all students – a choice of hot meal, salad bar selection, cheese, fresh fruit and desserts. Another opportunity to gather together and chat informally in English with friends and staff.

18:30-21:00
After dinner, students are given a choice of activities they can particapate in which include indoor or outdoor sports, arts and crafts. These activities are run and organised by the CLAC Social Team.
CLAC wouldn’t be CLAC without its much awaited evening activities – Capture the Flag, the Bottle Game, Karaoke, Casino Night, Live Cluedo, the Mystery Walk – all great favourites.

21:15
Staff on duty will prepare hot drinks and biscuits for the students every night and before bedtime. This is a perfect time for students to relax and chat to their friends.
After a day filled with learning, fun and activities, staff on duty will send students up to their bedrooms to get ready for sleep. Lights Out (depending on age).

The Activity Programme provides an opportunity for students to relax, meet up with their friends and practise their English through fun activities. Every afternoon after classes there are sports, excursions and events that make the most of what CLAC and the surrounding area have to offer. The programme is designed to appeal to different personalities and to not only interest, but also include everyone.
Each evening the Social Team arranges group challenges and tournaments, as well as CLAC quiz nights, discos and parties to entertain and involve all of the Great Ballard students. There is always something happening for all of our students to be take part in. We also understand that some free time is desired and this is included in the programme.
