Spanish Courses for British students

CLAC is a family-run International Summer School established in 1985 with the idea of bringing British and overseas students together in a learning and fun environment. The overseas students learn English whilst the British students learn Spanish.

British students attend the course to learn Spanish, enhancing the international atmosphere and creating the opportunity for natural language exchange and friendships.

The Spanish class timetable runs alongside the English class timetable so that all students are in class at the same time and then all join together for break times, meal times and the afternoon and evening social programme.

The course takes advantage of the native Spanish teacher to focus on fluency and confidence in speaking through engaging classes of role-plays, projects, language games, cookery and media as well as more formal language skills.

The small classes optimise personal attention and student participation.

15 hours timetabled classes each week:

  • 5 x 90 minute grammar classes
  • 10 x 45 minute skills classes (speaking, writing, listening reading)
  • Qualified native Spanish teacher
  • Max 12 students per class
  • Pre-course questionnaire to personalise language needs
  • Opportunity for individual tuition
  • GCSE and A-level practice on request

CLAC staff are carefully selected and must verify with certificates their safety to work with children. All staff live on site during the course and CLAC is proud to boast a 1:4 ratio of staff to students.

A dedicated CLAC Housemother personally looks after each student and is available 24 hours a day for children to go to if they feel unwell, need help or just someone to talk to.

CLAC keeps students’ personal items such as passports, pocket money and credit cards safe in the course office, which is always open to help students.

Mobile phones and any other electronic devices are also stored in the CLAC office and can be accessed at allocated times. Mobile phones must be handed in each evening and can be collected from 8am each morning.

Mobile phones must also be handed in during meetings, classes and certain activities and students are requested to turn off their mobile phones during mealtimes to be sociable and make conversation with their friends.

Parents can always contact the CLAC office in an emergency and talk with their children throughout the day at set times, when they are not in lessons or activities.

Parents are required to complete a Personal Medical Information Form for their child with their own contact details.

This information is kept confidential but it vital in order for CLAC to provide the necessary in loco parentis care for their child while away from home.
