Practice is given in Spanish language skills but the greatest importance is given to speaking. The native Spanish speakers on the course are encouraged to make friends of the British students and the Spanish teacher will involve them in class activities such as interviews and board games. Wherever possible British students also share a bedroom with a Spanish speaker. Confidence grows and the students are usually surprised by their rapid progress, often saying that they learn more Spanish in their short time at CLAC than in a whole year at school.
The small classes ensure a much higher level of personal attention and student participation than is to be found in many schools. The teachers are able to help students with their personal grammar problems, whilst at the same time expanding their knowledge of the language. The fun side of learning and using another language is brought to life through rôle-plays, language games and other varied activities, such as cooking, treasure hunts, presentations etc. all in Spanish.
The success of the courses is to be seen in the high number of children who return year after year to meet old friends and make new ones.
